About the Summit

The UK Government’s 2015 manifesto committed to make ‘the Midlands an engine of growth’. The Midlands Engine is the long-term economic plan to achieve greater economic growth and productivity across the whole of the Midlands. The Department for International Trade (DIT) fully supports this aspiration and is funding this International Trade Summit to help businesses gain an understanding of how the Midlands Engine can support your international business growth. As well as attending informative keynote addresses, delegates can choose to attend a variety of topical workshops and meet, on a one to one basis, with international trade and market experts. To find out more about what support is available, make sure you attend our Summit on the 9th March and register for your free ticket now.

Workshops

Workshops Session 1

Joining Forces with the Department for International Trade (12:45-13:45)

The UK needs new exporters. They are vital for the success of the economy and boosting exports is crucial to strengthening the UK’s trade performance. We know we cannot rely on increased consumption, or on government spending funded by debt, to drive growth. There are only two other ways of driving growth and creating jobs and this is through increased investment, including inward investment and by exporting more.

Are you a bank, accountant, solicitor, trade association, sector organisation or membership organisation who would like to know more about how you can work with the Department for International Trade to promote exporting as a profitable activity to benefit your clients?

If so, please book your place on this session.

Finance for Growing Businesses (12:45 – 13:45)

Are you a business looking to raise finance to grow in the UK and/or overseas markets? Are you looking to establish at what stage of growth intermediaries can support you and for what purposes they can lend? Perhaps you’d like to know more about the advantages and disadvantages of each of the types of finance available or how you can you access finance and what the cost of that finance will typically be?

If so, please book your place on this session with a panel of experts from:

British Bankers Association
Business Growth Fund
Peer to Peer Lending Association
UK Export Finance
British Business Bank

Please note this session will only be available to businesses seeking finance.

Exporting Is It For Me? (12:45-13:45)

Are you a business looking to make the most of overseas opportunities? Are you ready to realise your true exporting potential? Are you looking to establish the financial and practical support available via the Department for International Trade and the various ERDF projects, Midland Engine missions etc.? Perhaps you’d like to know more about the benefits of international trade and the considerations that need making to tackle some of the many business opportunities out there on GREAT.gov.uk.

If so, please book your place on this session.

Workshops Session 2

The Economic Forecast (13:45-14:45)

Join this session lead by Lee Hopley, Chief Economist at EEF who will cover:

  • Trends in the UK and local economy over the next 12 months
  • Likely drivers of growth in UK and around the world
  • How the outlook affects manufacturing in particular both positively and adversely
  • Post budget reflections

They’ll also be the chance for you to take part in a Q&A session after the workshop.

Workshops Session 3

Capital Support Finance (14:45-15:45)

Are you a business at an early stage of development, perhaps requiring equity capital, product development support and any type of funding not typically available from High Street lenders? Are you looking to establish what types of businesses ‘investors’ may support, how they will be repaid and over what timescale? Perhaps you’d like to know more about the advantages and disadvantages of each of the types of finance available or how you can you access finance and what the cost of that finance will typically be?

If so, please book your place on this session with a panel of experts from:

UK Business Angels Association
UK Crowd Funding Association
Innovate UK
British Business Bank

Please note this session will only be available to businesses exploring finance options.

Using the Web to Sell World-wide (14:45-15:45)

Are you a business looking to take advantage of online opportunities? Are you looking to establish how your business can profitably reach consumers in other markets and perhaps how pricing strategies and delivery models need adapting to fulfil more complicated orders? Perhaps you’d like to know more about the beneficial terms negotiated on your behalf, with major e-marketplaces across the globe, by the Department for International Trade.

If so, please book your place on this session.
